I’m horrified at the number of employees who expect me to map out their career path, decide on their professional development courses and salary increases. This is crazy. Being passive at work and in life is not only dangerous, but very foolish.
We often let life ‘happen’ and we ‘go with the flow.’ This is fine occasionally. However, you need to take charge. It is your life. Don’t let others dictate what it should entail. Don’t let life ‘just happen.’ It will pass you by before you know it.
Stop. Take note. Think about the following;
- What are your dreams?
- Where do you see yourself in 2 years, 5 years and 10 years?
- What do you really want out of life?
- What are you not doing now?
- How can you make yourself more financially secure?
- Who do you want to be around?
- Who do you want to share this journey with?
Once you have these key questions answered, start an action plan. Map out what you need and how you will get there. Then start today.
This will help you take control and live the life you want and deserve.
Never stop learning
It is critical to never stop learning. Expand your mind, think differently, see the world through different eyes and aim to understand it better.
If you are time poor, why not list to podcasts? They are fantastic for the commute to work or when you exercise. There are an amazing variety of podcasts available on any topic you can think of.
Aim to read 1 book per month. Devote 30mins each night to reading; you will be amazed at how many books you can get through.

Think of moments within your day, which you are grateful for.

If you want to simplify your life quickly, remove the drama. Getting involved in other people’s problems is not healthy or productive.
Negativity and gossiping occur with work colleagues, friends and family members. They may just want a listening ear or want you to get involved. Resist at all cost.

Ask yourself ‘is this relationship equal?’ Do I feel positive after I have seen this person? If the answer is NO, it’s time to evaluate.
